Welcome to the official website of Jared DeFlurin of Boston. Jared DeFlurin will soon be graduating with an LDAX certificate and is applying for a Masters in Social Work. Having held numerous roles in Recovery & Counseling – currently as an Intake Coordinator as a Halfway House – Jared DeFlurin of Boston has always been interested in how people can improve their life and overall wellbeing.

For Jared DeFlurin, he has seen firsthand the benefits an active lifestyle can have on all areas of one’s health. This website will serve as an outlet for Jared DeFlurin to discuss some of his favorite ways to stay active and what someone who adopts an active lifestyle can expect to enjoy as a result.

The favorite physical activity of Jared DeFlurin is swimming in New Hampshire and the Atlantic Ocean as much as possible. When people think of the Boston area, they may not think of the swimming scene, but Jared DeFlurin even enjoys cold water swims in the ocean during the winter months.

Cold water swimming has numerous health benefits that go far beyond the physical exertion of swimming. As Jared DeFlurin of Boston has witnessed the rise of popularity of cold tubs, he has been enjoying the benefits of an outdoor cold-water swim for years.

For starters, the shock of cold water is going to create a stress reaction in the body that triggers one’s fight or flight response. It’s an incredibly powerful mental health tool to show the brain and the body that we can react to a scary or tense situation with a positive response. When diving into the ocean in the winter, the stress hormone cortisol is released by the body and a person’s heartrate and breathing frequency will increase rapidly. Jared DeFlurin believes that exposing the body to this stress reaction provides a person with the confidence to overcome stressful situations in their daily lives. As people train their bodies to overcome stressful situations, the brain stops responding to stressful situations with sheer panic.

Jared DeFlurin of Boston believes that building up one’s self-confidence is critical to anyone’s long-term health and well-being. One of the best parts of living an active lifestyle is acknowledging physical and spiritual growth over time. When one can become comfortable being uncomfortable, they develop a resiliency that is imperative to growth in life.

Whether people embrace cold water swims or simply head to the local gym to get some laps in the pool, Jared DeFlurin notes that it is the perfect activity to let go of daily stresses and focus in on nothing more than the act of swimming. Because people can’t be scrolling their phone or watching a show, they can’t help but fully immersed in the activity at hand. Swimming is a mindfulness exercise that provides a crucial timeout from every day thoughts. Jared DeFlurin of Boston will often recognize after a trip to the pool or ocean that he feels reenergized and refocused. While Jared DeFlurin finds this through swimming, he also notices the same logic applies when hiking in nature. The key is to get active and leave technology behind. Even something as simple as going for a walk around one’s neighborhood while focusing on the beauty of one’s natural surroundings can provide health benefits for both the body and the mind.

Earlier Jared DeFlurin of Boston mentioned that cold tubs are growing in popularity. The main reason people are looking to cold tubs is that they can assist in decreasing inflammation. For years, top athletes have turned to ice baths after a grueling game or match to speed up the recovery process. When the body reacts to cold temperatures, they direct blood away from the extremities to protect the organs of a person. This helps decrease inflammation that allows the muscles in the body to recover quicker.

While Jared DeFlurin is not a medical professional, he can say with confidence that increasing his physical activity has helped his immune system tremendously. Outdoor workouts, in particular, seem to help the body build up an immunity to common colds and other seasonal illnesses. It’s also true that exposure to salt water will help the skin. Sea water contains calcium, potassium, and magnesium, which have all been proven to help improve the health of one’s skin.

If you are new to swimming, Jared DeFlurin recommends swimming where there’s a lifeguard on duty. Open water swimming can be extremely dangerous as riptides can be strong. An inexperienced swimmer can still enjoy plenty of health benefits by routinely visiting the local swim club and working on their form. It may not be the easiest thing to master right away, but no swimmer should get discouraged. As with any other physical form of exercise, the key is to stick with it and improvements will become clear over time.
